Josh is a seasoned digital designer, frontend engineer, and digital producer. With nine+ years of professional experience spanning the United States, Japan, and China, he now resides in Miami, Florida, where he serves full-time as VP Design at Telcoin.

Josh's overarching mission is to enhance the lives of 1,000,000 individuals by addressing complex challenges with straightforward digital design and application solutions.

Industry Experience

Josh has designed and coded 30+ digital products, websites, and apps, for company sizes ranging from multinational corporations to budding startups across a variety of sectors. Some examples of sectors include eCommerce, investment banking, data analytics, telecommunications, food & beverage, music, entertainment, art commerce, blockchain, decentralized finance, and web3. He is incredibly passionate about the intersection of AI, blockchain, and finance.

Personal History

Born in Okinawa, Japan, to a military family, Josh relocated to the United States when he was just two years old. His childhood was spent in many states, including North Carolina, Alaska, California, Florida, and Minnesota. Always a creative spirit, his teenage years were filled with musical endeavors and a foray into small business through 20+ part-time roles, ranging from freelance photography to bartending to English teaching.

Uncertain about his career direction, Josh began his academic journey in business school in 2010, eventually settling on an undergraduate degree in marketing. This choice allowed him to merge his passion for design and branding with the intricacies of psychology to solve real business goals. Concurrently, he began freelancing, designing marketing materials and websites that drew from the marketing principles he was studying.

Upon earning his BS degree in Marketing from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management, Josh's wanderlust led him back to his birthplace, Japan. In 2014, he enrolled in a bilateral exchange program at Sophia University in Tokyo, immersing himself in the Japanese language and the nuances of Japanese business culture.

Post-graduation, Josh secured a position as a web designer and frontend engineer at Rakuten's Creative Web Department in Tokyo. Over the next four to five years, he ventured into various roles in the Japanese tech, finance, and advertising sectors, even establishing his own freelance business. However, feeling he had reached a professional plateau, Josh returned to the U.S. in 2020, eager to tap into the tech industry's vast opportunities.

In early 2021, Telcoin brought him on board as their Head of Design. He’s since been promoted to VP Design. In this role, Josh has cultivated a profound appreciation for blockchain and its potential, particularly in decentralized finance and web3. Since joining Telcoin we has led the design of their webapps, and mobile iOS/Android app, and brand, while concurrently producing and managing all of Telcoin’s webapps.

Hobbies

When Josh isn’t designing or developing, he enjoys studying macroeconomics via Real Vision, exploring AI businesses and tools, organizing his thoughts in Notion, and learning from mentors. He goes to the gym every day, attends yoga on weekends, and loves capturing fading moments through his photography. Josh speaks Japanese with business level proficiency and is studying to do the same in Spanish. You can generally find him attending DJ events (house, bass, deep house, hardstyle) on weekends with his friends in Miami. He has 6 tattoos, a pet bearded dragon, and no car.
